Post Production Workflow in Lightroom

Jennifer bought her very first DSLR camera in 2006 but has been in the professional photography business since 2008! It started all the way back in high school when she helped with the yearbook and her love for photography only continued to grow and flourish!

Today, Jennifer prepared an amazing presentation on Lightroom; what it is best for, how to use it, and tips and tricks to make things easier!

The best things to use Lightroom for would be tasks such as editing large amounts of images quickly, culling (picking/sorting) through a session or events images, file sorting and organization, basic lighting and color fixing, fast and easy cropping and straightening, etc.

Although Lightroom is amazing for simple edits and fast processing, there are times when it is going to be more efficient to switch over to Photoshop. These instances include detailed retouching, composites, any work which requires layering, etc.

Here are some quick keyboard shortcuts for Lightroom:

  • If you are flagging your images, try using the keyboard shortcuts “P” for flag (or “pick) and “U” for unflag (or “unpick”).

  • Press “G” to view your images in grid view instead of individual view.

  • Use the space bar button to view your photograph at full size.

  • “Tab” key will get rid of the side panels to better focus and the image you are looking at.

  • Pressing “D” will bring you to the development tab to make adjustments.

  • To get to the crop or straighten tool, use the “R” key.

  • When staring your photograph, use the number keys 1-5 to rate your images accordingly.

  • When rating your images with the color label, use the number keys 6-9 to assign different colors.

We learned so much from Jennifer and we are thankful for the time she took to teach us what she knows! If you would like to know more and go beyond this brief meeting overview, feel free to contact her through her website, www.mccluskeyphotography.net, and she will be more than willing to get back to you!
